Significance of The Day 11th December

 International Mountain Day is celebrated annually on 11 December to to create awareness about the importance of mountains to life, to highlight the opportunities and constraints in mountain development, and to build alliances that will bring positive change to mountain peoples and environments around the world.

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared the year 2002 as the International Year of Mountains (IYM2002) to increase awareness about the global importance of mountain ecosystem. iii.In 2003, UNGA adopted the resolution A/RES/57/245 and declared 11 December of every year as International Mountain Day.

The day aims to raise awareness on preserving the biodiversity on the mountains from pollution, over-exploitation as well as climate change. "Restoring Mountain Ecosystems" is the theme for this year.


UNICEF Day is now observed annually on December 11 to commemorate the establishment of one of the biggest humanitarian organizations in the world. It has established its presence in 192 countries and territories worldwide in the 76 years since its founding.
